So, this painting won the Painting Award at the Westmoreland Art Nationals this weekend. Which is very confusing because I'd already won that award at that show for this painting -

Turns out, the same collection of artwork is displayed in two different venues and they do a different judging with different judges at each one. Weird, right?

Anyway, I'm very proud of the awards. I guess since I keep winning awards at it I should do more of this painting thing.

What I'm working on now is an experiment. I haven't used gouache paint since art school, where I remember being frustrated by it. So, I'm going to try a gouache painting of this sketch to see if I'm any better at it 45 years later. Also, why is gouache so damned hard to spell?

Keep your fingers crossed. It's too hard for me to paint with mine crossed.

In high school I spent a summer vacation reading the King James bible cover to cover and I'm convinced this is his main message.

These are a few of the illustrations I'm doing for a really fun project. These will be part of an animated film. One of the nice things is that this is pretty much my natural drawing style when I'm not trying to make it look like some other technique. Don't get to to that too often.

A few drawings from this week's figure session. Ya gotta love a model who shows up with a Centurion helmet and sword.

Some fun with a Sharpie at this week's figure session. I was totally burned out after several days of cranking out storyboards as fast as I could and had no expectations at figure session, so just grabbed a Sharpie to play with. Pretty happy with the results.

A 5 minute sketch at the end of this week's figure session. I used a dried-up old brown Flair on equally old dried-up newsprint. This morning I spent another 5 minutes putting in the white highlights with a Prismacolor pencil while I drank my coffee.

If it was Tuesday you know it was figure session. I love this small sketchpad of brown paper but I have no idea what it is or where I got it.

Some sketches from this week's figure group.
